Create a Video for a Restaurant

The food industry is one of the most competitive businesses out there. From Fast Food

chains to high-end restaurants, the food industry offers many people to dine in or take out, all

while getting them to spend a good amount of money every month. The question is how to get

them to spend their dollars at YOUR restaurant.

There are a few answers to that. When you sell food, youʼre selling a taste, and people eat with their eyes first. Presenting the food in the most sizzling way is your greatest advantage.

If the food doesn’t look good, healthy, and most importantly, tasty, or is not on plate clean – it can scare away potential clients.

When you create a video for your restaurant, catering, or cooking services, tell a story.
Talk about:

·       What compelled you to start your business

·       What you weren't finding everywhere else

·       How you choose your ingredients

·       What the place means to you

Before shooting the place, the kitchen or yourself at work, make sure everything looks shiny, bright, and clean. With the camera, you can focus on the more visually appealing areas of the restaurant, or on specific dishes or people in order to avoid visuals that wonʼt look as good on
camera. A bit further in the post we will give a few examples of how we use this technique.

Remember, when you sell food, you sell more than just a dish. You sell atmosphere, love, desire and a place for interaction. It will leave a great taste in both the mouths and hearts of your diners.

If itʼs a video for your website, showing people making faces while enjoying the food can be good enough, but you can add some testimonials. Having real people giving genuine reviews can go very far in leaving a positive impact on people. Show fresh ingredients, show unique spices, mixing, blending, cooking, and, of course, delicious dishes. If the video is a commercial, tease them to come and give it a try by offering a deal they canʼt resist.

In the past, we have produced several videos for businesses in the food industry; one of them is Jaffa Restaurant - an Israeli Fusion Cuisine at the Miami Design District. We shot a recap video for a special event the restaurant held called "A Night In Marakesh", lead by Chef Yaniv Cohen (who is also known as “The Spice Detective”). We wanted to deliver the fresh ingredients used for the food, the delicious and unique Middle-Eastern food, and show how fun the atmosphere is in the restaurant.

We only used one camera, the Canon 5D, which is fantastic to film in varying environments with not many adjustments. We captured the herbs and ingredients, the dining people, the chef himself, and the fun food and drinks.
This 1-minute video enabled the restaurant to promote the special events done at their location on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other channels.

Another great example is the video we created for Grand Cafe - a dairy and fish only restaurant. Here, we wanted to capture how big the space is and the service provided, as well as the delicious dairy based food, which is usually important for Kosher keeping people.

To create better credibility for the restaurant, we used a host that showed and enjoyed the place and food, by tasting it. It's pretty much her review about the restaurant.

To make it easier on the business that was working while we filmed, we used only one camera.

The Canon 5D was the perfect choice here as well, and a portable mount made it easier to maneuver, as some areas were tighter than others. We also used a great microphone that has great range and quality, and it plugs into any DSLR camera very easily.

Before filming, we visited the location to see where to film what. Knowing exactly what we want the video to be and accomplish, it took us about three hours to film. We were in - and -out in no time, allowing the business to continue as usual.
